23-28 JUNE 2014
We are at the very exciting stage of planning this year’s Festival when we try to put together the jigsaw of available venues and suggestions for authors and events to build a fabulous week of inspiration for children, young people and their families. We hope that the Festival can continue to spread the love of reading and creative opportunities to your students. I know that all of you are all too aware of the increased government and Ofsted emphasis on reading for pleasure and the Literally Festival can play a key part in raising the profile of reading within your school
The highlight of the Festival this year will undoubtedly be the visit of Dame Jacqueline Wilson who will be collecting her Lifetime Inspiration Award. She unfortunately cannot attend the Coventry Inspiration Book Awards ceremony in St Mary’s Hall on 25th June, but that is very good news for all her young fans. It means that we will be holding a special event for young people in the city. Watch this space for details for how to get tickets for this event. We will also be running a competition to find her biggest fan. Their task will be to write the citation speech which tells everyone just why Dame Jacqueline deserves this honour. They will then have the honour of delivering this speech and actually presenting the award to her at this celebration event. This speech and presentation will be filmed and shown at the St Mary’s Hall ceremony the following day.
Other highlights already confirmed are:
A special film showing of How I Live Now followed by a session with acclaimed author Meg Rosoff
World Book Day illustrator Alex T Smith
The popular Coventry Writers Evening at the Criterion Theatre
The Wimpy Kid show with host Alistair Watson
The Hunger Games Catching Fire Film and Quiz Challenge
Visits from Coventry Inspiration Book Award 2014 winners: Guy Bass, Richard Kurti, Nigel Hinton etc
The Booked Up Transition Quiz
We are considering offers from an exciting range of authors, poets and illustrators for every age group from Reception to KS4-there will be something for everyone!
It is not too late to sign up to support the Festival as a Friend. For £50 your school can get priority both to host an event and for tickets to other events. Please e-mail email@example.com to request an application form. Do also get in touch if you want to find out about how to take part in any of the activities listed above.
